On the subject of lighting. I just bought a Gary Fong Whaletail Diffuser. Don't know if you have heard of this thing...but I think it is going to be the bomb!

yeah I have the fong light sphere thing… I don't use it much because it was too heavy for my flash and made it swing all over the place.

You're right Steve. I knew that was an issue from another gal I know. The Whaletail seems to do much better...it is a lightweight big honkin' plastic thingy with two flaps that you can put gels/relflectors in, mounts on pretty much any flash, etc... I haven't used it much yet...

I'm thinking about investing in some serious external/portable gear in the near future. I've looked a bit on B&H at Bowens, Lumedine, etc. What is the best bang for the buck for portable lighting equipment...or, if you had to purchase all your lighting gear from scratch, what would your new setup look like?

Thanks!
Tad

ps. I like the music preferences you list in your profile - especially Sufjan. I've been addicted to an online station out of Seattle called KEXP 90.3. You may want to check them out sometime.

Hey Tad,
I have a portable profoto kit and I have to say it's really nice but very expensive.
I started out with all this hi-end gear so I if I had to start over I think I would still have a similar kit.
I have a Pro-B Generator, a pro B head, a 4x6 softbox and a ring flash.
At some point I think I will add one more head.

As far as portability goes sometimes all you need is a few remote flashes and you can get some great lighting...I have 3- 550ex’s and I have done some fun work with just those.

I'll check out that station!
